Melissa Bischoff joined eCity as an Inbound Marketing Consultant this past July, and quickly established herself as an unstoppable high-quality content-writing machine. Then she had the audacity to go to Hawaii for an entire week and only bring us back a postcard. So the jury is still out. We caught up with her over drinks at Philly’s Uptown beer garden to get to know her a little more. Welcome aboard, Melissa!
What is Your Daily Routine at eCity?
Although every day at eCity is a little bit different, I usually start my day checking social media for eCity and my clients. In my role, it’s important to keep up with the ever-evolving digital landscape. After I update all of the social media channels, I take a look at our content calendar and see what upcoming pieces there are to work on. I get to do a lot of writing in this position, which is something I really enjoy. In addition to producing and promoting content for eCity and our clients, I also work with the rest of the team to craft the strategy behind the content. With inbound, I love that it’s data-driven, but that there’s also room for creativity.
Describe Your Resume at a Glance.
I’m a proud recent graduate of Rowan University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, with an advertising minor. During my time at Rowan, I was accepted into the honors concentration, involved in the American Marketing Association, and a member of the cheerleading team. I was also lucky enough to study abroad in London my junior year, and took part in multiple internships that helped me explore my passion for marketing and communications.
“Not only does eCity produce high-quality, creative work, but there is also a sense of goodwill and a fun culture here that can be hard to find.”
If you had a Week off, you’d spend it…
Down the shore in Ocean City eating Manco & Manco’s pizza and playing 10 cent skee ball.
Give me a Pearl of Wisdom related to what you do:
I love the quote from Seth Godin, “Our job is to connect to people, to interact with them in a way that leaves them better than we found them, more able to get where they’d like to go.” I like to think of marketing as helping people – as providing them some type of value.
Why did you want to join eCity?
The company values really attracted me to eCity. As a recent college grad, I wanted to work somewhere that was committed to making a difference. Not only does eCity produce high-quality, creative work, but there is also a sense of goodwill and a fun culture here that can be hard to find.
What has been the highlight of your time here thus far?
So far, the highlight of my time at eCity has been getting to play around with the virtual reality headset. There are so many possibilities with VR, and I can’t wait to see the impact it has on every industry. Plus, who doesn’t love getting to paint in 3D? So fun!
Who or what do you draw inspiration from?
I draw a lot of inspiration from the books I read. I love true stories. Most recently, I read Shoe Dog by Phil Knight. What inspired me most about his story was how unmotivated he was by money. He had an idea he really believed in, and all he wanted to do was realize that vision no matter what it took.
If you had a super power, what would it be?
If I could have any super power, I’d definitely want to fly. As someone who loves to travel, being able to fly would save me a lot of money on airfare and gas.
